MTN MoMo Casinos in Ghana: Deposits & Withdrawals (2026)
Quick Answer
MTN MoMo is the fastest and most widely accepted way to move money in and out of online casinos in Ghana. Deposits are instant and carry no MTN charge because they are processed as merchant payments. Withdrawals land back in your wallet once the casino processes them – about 10 minutes at the fastest casino we tested in June 2026. Your wallet must be registered with your Ghana Card, and fully verified wallets carry a GHS 10,000 daily limit. As of 2026 there is no E-Levy on transfers and no tax on gambling winnings – both were scrapped in April 2025. To deposit: open the casino cashier, choose MTN Mobile Money, enter your number and amount, then approve the PIN prompt on your phone. If the prompt does not appear, dial *170#, choose My Wallet, then My Approvals.
I have been testing payment systems at African casinos for over a decade, first from inside the industry and now from the player’s side of the counter. In that time one thing has become non-negotiable for Ghanaian players: if a casino does not handle MTN Mobile Money properly, it does not deserve your deposit. This guide covers everything I check before recommending any of the MTN MoMo casinos in Ghana – the exact deposit and withdrawal steps, what MTN actually charges you in 2026, the E-Levy position after the repeal, and the problems that eat people’s money when they skip the boring details.
Why MTN MoMo Is the Default Payment Method at Ghana Casinos
The numbers settle this quickly. MTN Mobile Money passed 19.3 million active users in 2025 and holds about three-quarters of Ghana’s mobile money market. Telecel Cash takes a little under a quarter, and AT Money the small remainder. Bank of Ghana data puts the country at over 43 million registered mobile money accounts in early 2026 – registered rather than active, which is why that number comfortably exceeds the population: multi-SIM ownership is normal here and one person can hold several wallets.
For casino play specifically, MoMo wins on three practical points:
- Speed. A card deposit can stall on a bank OTP. A MoMo deposit is a PIN prompt on your phone and the money reflects while the cashier page is still open.
- Access. MoMo works on a basic phone over USSD. No bank account, no card, no app required.
- Withdrawal reality. When a casino pays out to MoMo, the money is spendable immediately – airtime, bills, MoMoPay at the market, or cash at any agent. A bank withdrawal still needs a trip through clearing.
Every serious operator targeting Ghana knows this, which is why MoMo sits first in the cashier at the licensed brands. The ones that bury it behind cards are usually not built for this market – treat that as a signal. The same is true on the sportsbook side, where the cashier and the PIN flow are identical; our ranking of sports betting sites in Ghana notes which bookmakers take cedis and which are crypto only.
Which Casinos in Ghana Accept MTN MoMo?
Of the seven casinos we have tested with real money at Best Casinos Africa, three take MTN MoMo directly:
1xBet GCG-LICENSED
Locally licensed by the Gaming Commission of Ghana (licences GCSB26F1615T and GCCA26S1100P), MoMo deposits from GHS 1, withdrawals to the same wallet. In our June 2026 test the deposit receipt was logged at 18:21 and the withdrawal was completed at 18:44 – a full deposit-to-payout cycle in 23 minutes, with the withdrawal itself clearing in about 10 minutes. It is the only payout on this site we have documented end to end, request time, completion time and reference number included. Full transaction log in our 1xBet review.
MelBet OFFSHORE LICENCE
Offshore-licensed (Curacao GCB, OGL/2024/561/0554), mobile money deposits from GHS 10, with MTN, Telecel and Airtel all listed for both deposits and withdrawals in the cashier we tested. It goes lower still on e-wallets, from GHS 6, though that is a different rail and worth not confusing with the mobile money floor. We deposited and submitted a withdrawal request during our June 2026 test, but we never captured confirmation that the money landed, so we publish no payout time for MelBet. The MelBet review has the full transaction trail and the licence trade-off explained.
MostBet LICENCE NOT DISPLAYED
Airtel Money deposits from GHS 10 and MTN MoMo from GHS 15 – a higher entry than 1xBet’s, but still pocket-change territory – with Binance Pay from GHS 20 as a commission-free backup. We funded a real account in our July 2026 test and played with the balance, but our withdrawal froze behind a surprise ID and phone verification wall, so its MoMo payout speed is unverified. On the licence: MostBet does hold a Curacao licence, OGL/2024/597/0249 under Bizbon N.V., which we verified on the regulator’s own register – but it appears nowhere on the MostBet site, so you cannot check it before you deposit. Verify your account on day one and keep balances small; the full test is in our MostBet review.
Wild.io NO MOMO
Wild.io does not accept MoMo. It is a crypto-only casino, so you would need to buy USDT or BTC first and that adds cost and steps. What that route actually costs at both ends, and the withdrawal floor that can strand a small balance at a crypto-only site, is set out in our guide to crypto casino deposits in Ghana. If MoMo is your payment method, stick to the casinos above.
I mention the Wild.io exception because plenty of affiliate sites list every casino as “MoMo-friendly” to farm clicks. We do not. The same goes for the other three crypto-only sites in our test stable – Cryptorino, Cybet and Reels.io – where MoMo is not an option either and cedis are not held at all.
Other licensed operators in Ghana also accept MoMo. We only list casinos we have deposited at and requested a withdrawal from with our own money, which is why this list is short, and it grows when our testing does rather than before. Where we cannot get that far, we say so instead of guessing: our comparison of two brands whose cashiers we could not reach covers a pair of the biggest names in the market that are widely reported to take mobile money, and explains why we will not confirm it. Neither would let us complete registration without a Ghanaian phone number, so neither cashier was ever reachable, and a payment method we have not seen inside a funded account is not one we will publish.

How to Deposit at MTN MoMo Casinos in Ghana: Step by Step
The flow below matches what we tested at 1xBet and MelBet. Other licensed casinos follow the same pattern because they run on the same local payment gateways.
- Sort your wallet first. Your MoMo wallet must be registered with your Ghana Card. Since SIM re-registration, unlinked wallets get blocked from transactions, and a blocked wallet at the deposit stage is the single most common “the casino stole my money” complaint that turns out to be a wallet problem.
- Open the cashier and pick MTN Mobile Money. Log in, hit Deposit, choose MTN MoMo from the payment list. Ignore any “hot” badges pushing you toward cards or vouchers.
- Enter the amount. Minimums are low – GHS 1 at 1xBet and GHS 10 at MelBet on mobile money. If you are planning to claim a welcome offer, check the qualifying minimum first; depositing below it wastes the bonus. Our casino bonus guide breaks down the current qualifying amounts and publishes the wagering figure on every offer.
- Enter your MoMo number. Use the number registered in your own name. The name on the wallet needs to match the name on your casino account, or the withdrawal will jam later even if the deposit sails through.
- Approve the prompt. A PIN pop-up should hit your phone within seconds. Enter your MoMo PIN and you are done. If nothing appears – and on a busy network it happens – dial *170#, choose option 6 (My Wallet), then option 3 (My Approvals). The pending payment sits there waiting for your PIN.
- Confirm the credit. In our June 2026 test at 1xBet the deposit was credited immediately – fast enough that our entire deposit-to-payout cycle, withdrawal included, took 23 minutes. You get an SMS from MTN confirming the debit, which doubles as your receipt.
What it costs you: nothing. Casino deposits are processed as merchant payments, and merchant payments carry no MTN fee. The amount you type is the amount that leaves your wallet. If a casino’s cashier shows a “processing fee” added on top, that is the casino’s own charge – we have not seen it at the brands we recommend, and we would flag it if we did.
How to Withdraw Your Winnings to MTN MoMo
Withdrawals are where casinos show their real character, which is why payout testing is one of the heaviest-weighted parts of our review methodology.
- Finish verification before you win, not after. Every licensed casino will ask for KYC documents before the first payout. Upload your Ghana Card early. Doing it while a withdrawal is pending adds days – and at some offshore sites it is worse than a delay: our MostBet test withdrawal was blocked outright until we submitted ID and phone verification we had never been warned about. What each type of casino actually asks for, and when, is set out in our guide to casino KYC and the Ghana Card.
- Check the minimum withdrawal before you deposit. On the cedi sites this is rarely an issue, but three of the seven casinos we tested set a crypto withdrawal floor our balance never reached – 10 USD at two of them and 20 USD at the third – which meant no withdrawal request could be placed at all. A minimum you cannot reach is a payout you cannot test.
- Request the withdrawal. Cashier, Withdraw, MTN Mobile Money, amount. The wallet number is usually locked to the one you deposited from – that is an anti-fraud measure, not an inconvenience.
- Wait for casino-side processing. This is the part the casino controls and where the differences are brutal. Our tested result: 1xBet completed our withdrawal in about 10 minutes, with the times on record. At MelBet we submitted a request during the same testing window but never confirmed it landed, so no time is published for it. Anything quoted beyond 24 hours for a MoMo payout in 2026 is a bad sign. We publish every payout result we got, including the ones where no money moved, on our list of fast payout casinos in Ghana.
- Money lands, SMS arrives. Receiving into your wallet is free. From there the standard MoMo rates apply only if you move it: cashing out at an agent is free under GHS 50, roughly 1% between GHS 50 and GHS 2,000, then a flat GHS 20 cap above that. Moving winnings onward to a bank account carries no new MTN fee – a proposed charge was blocked by the regulator in May 2026, and the fees table below has the full story.
One habit worth stealing: if you cash out winnings at an agent, the fee comes off your wallet automatically. An agent asking for cash on top is overcharging you – that surcharge is prohibited, and you can report the agent to MTN on 100.
MTN MoMo Fees and Limits for Casino Players (2026)
The full picture in one place, current as of August 2026:
| Transaction | Fee |
|---|---|
| Cash-in at an agent (loading your wallet) | Free |
| Casino deposit (merchant payment) | Free – no MTN charge |
| Receiving a casino withdrawal | Free |
| Cash-out at an agent, under GHS 50 | Free |
| Cash-out at an agent, GHS 50 – 2,000 | About 1% |
| Cash-out at an agent, above GHS 2,000 | Flat GHS 20 |
| MoMo wallet to bank account | No new fee – proposed 0.75% charge suspended by the Bank of Ghana on 26 May 2026 |
| Sending to another wallet, under GHS 100 | Free |
| Sending to another wallet, up to GHS 1,000 | 0.75% |
| Sending to another wallet, above GHS 1,000 | Flat GHS 7.50 |
Limits. A fully verified wallet (Ghana Card linked) carries a GHS 10,000 daily transaction limit and GHS 100,000 monthly, under Bank of Ghana rules. The daily limit is cumulative across everything you do with the wallet, so a big deposit plus a big withdrawal on the same day can bump into it. If you play with larger amounts, spread the movements across days or the transaction simply declines.
Practical fee note for players. The deposit-and-withdraw loop itself costs you zero: deposit free, receive free. You only pay MTN when you convert winnings to cash or bank money. That makes MoMo cheaper than cards for casino play, where card withdrawals often route through bank transfer fees anyway.
One recent story worth knowing, because outdated guides get it wrong in both directions. On 25 May 2026 MTN announced a 0.75% fee on wallet-to-bank transfers, capped at GHS 5, due to start on 1 June. The Bank of Ghana directed MTN’s fintech arm to suspend it within 24 hours, pending consultations, and as of August 2026 the fee is not in force. If that changes, this table changes with it – the update date at the top of this page is not decoration.
E-Levy on MoMo Casino Deposits: The 2026 Position
Short answer: there is none. This is the section where most guides you will find are out of date, so here is the exact record.
The E-Levy is gone. President Mahama signed the Electronic Transfer Levy (Repeal) Bill on 2 April 2025, and the Ghana Revenue Authority was directed to stop collection immediately. Nothing has replaced it as of August 2026. There has been public debate about bringing back a redesigned version – a tax analyst proposed exactly that in April 2026 – but debate is all it is. If you read a guide telling you to budget 1% E-Levy on your deposits, it was written before April 2025 or copied from something that was. Casino deposits would not have been the expensive part anyway, since they are processed as merchant payments, but a levy on the transfer that funds your wallet would have reached you either way.
Winnings are untaxed too. The 10% withholding on gambling winnings was repealed in the same April 2025 package, so nothing comes off your casino payout in 2026. The policy conversation has since moved toward taxing operators rather than players, which would land on the casino’s books and not your withdrawal. The law itself, the licence tiers and the full repeal history are covered in our guide to Ghana’s gambling laws and the 2026 tax rules.
The player takeaway: in 2026, if any casino “deducts tax” from your MoMo payout, that deduction has no legal basis. Query it with support, and if the answer is vague, that casino goes on your blocklist. We check payout deductions line by line in our testing for exactly this reason.
Common MoMo Deposit and Withdrawal Problems (And Fixes)
Eleven years around this industry teaches you that most “casino scammed me” stories are one of these five, in this order:
- The approval prompt never arrived. Network congestion swallows prompts, especially evenings and match days. Fix: *170#, then 6 (My Wallet), then 3 (My Approvals) – approve the pending transaction there. It waits for you for several minutes before expiring.
- Wallet not fully registered. If your SIM and Ghana Card were never properly linked, transactions fail silently or the wallet is restricted. Fix: MTN service centre with your Ghana Card. Ten minutes, free.
- Name mismatch. Casino account says one name, wallet is registered to your cousin. Deposit works, withdrawal freezes in KYC forever. Fix: only ever play under your own name with your own wallet. There is no workaround, and there should not be – it is anti-money-laundering law.
- Daily limit hit. GHS 10,000 cumulative per day. The decline message from MTN is not always clear that this is the reason. Fix: wait for midnight or split across days.
- Casino-side delay dressed up as a MoMo problem. If MTN sent you no debit SMS, the money never left your wallet – the casino’s “pending” is their problem, not the network’s. Keep the SMS trail; it is your evidence in any support dispute.
If a casino’s support cannot resolve a payment issue with a clear answer in one exchange, that tells you more about the casino than any bonus banner. Our guide on how to choose a safe online casino covers the other trust signals worth checking before your money is on the line.
Telecel Cash and AT Money: The Alternatives
Both work at the major casinos, and thanks to Ghana’s national mobile money interoperability, all three networks talk to each other in real time. The step-by-step flows mirror MTN’s: pick the method, enter number and amount, approve with PIN. The cash-out fee schedules are near-identical across all three operators, so the real choice is agent access, not price.
Telecel Cash casinos in Ghana
Telecel Cash, formerly Vodafone Cash, is the clear second network and has one genuine edge: free same-network transfers. Coverage is strongest in Accra, Kumasi and the other big cities; USSD reliability thins out in rural areas. If you are on Telecel with a solid signal, there is no reason to switch for casino play – 1xBet and MelBet both list it in the cashier, and we verified MelBet’s payment screens directly during our June 2026 test.
AT Money casinos in Ghana
AT Money, formerly AirtelTigo Money, is the small player of the three. It works where offered, but agent density is the weak point – fewer places to cash out winnings. One quirk worth knowing: casino cashiers still label AT Money as “Airtel”, so look for that name on the payment screen. MostBet’s cashier, for example, lists “Airtel” with a GHS 10 minimum, which is the cheapest AT Money entry of the sites we have tested.
MoMo Safety Rules for Casino Players
The convenience that makes MoMo perfect for casino play also makes it fast enough to outrun your own judgment. A few hard rules I hold myself to:
- Your PIN goes into your phone and nowhere else. No agent, no “MTN representative” on a call, no casino support chat ever needs it. Anyone asking is running a fraud script.
- Play only at licensed casinos. In Ghana that means a Gaming Commission of Ghana licence for local operations, and it is worth checking the licence covers the product you intend to play, since the Commission issues sports betting and casino licences separately. We also document offshore licences honestly, weaknesses included, in every review. You must be 18 or older to gamble in Ghana.
- Set a deposit ceiling before you open the cashier, not after. The frictionless approve-with-PIN loop is exactly one PIN away from a deposit you did not plan. Decide the number while you are calm.
- Winnings that stay in the casino balance are not winnings yet. Withdraw regularly. The balance sitting in the cashier is one late-night session away from zero.
